In terms of paperwork, there are four items that are usually needed to move forward with renting the place of your choice:

Rental Application (which may be filled out online)

A Full Credit Report (From Equifax or Transunion)

Piece of Government ID (Driver’s License, Passport, etc.)

Letter of Employment (or a bank statement/proof of income if you're currently a student or not actively employed)
